Tulaimat's Art

Some of you have been asking me about the paintings thinking that they are my own. The truth of the matter is : they are my dad's.

Muhammad Tulaimat is well known syrian artisit currently living in Homs, Syria. His most recent exhibits where held in Chicago.

Hi there,

First, I would like to thank you for letting us contemplating your expression, your art, hence your richness. I could stay hours comprehending these paintings… they all mean something for me, they inspire me, thankful I am to you.

I have no words to describe what I see, let me tell about my way to perceive art, but in a general view. Here is the introduction of a dissertation I wrote on the role of the art in the Assyrian empire. Sorry it’s in French, you can translate it at http://babelfish.altavista.com/

LE RÔLE DE L’ART DANS LA CIVILISATION ASSYRIENNE ANTIQUE

Deux concepts
Il nous est tout d’abord primordial de traduire l’art dans son contexte général et puis comme agent transitionnel, voir exécuteur dans un cycle social complexe, comme celui de la Mésopotamie de la fin de l’âge du Bronze et du début de l’âge du Fer. Premièrement, dans un contexte global, dans le temps et le lieu, l’art doit être perçu comme expression et réflexion d’une idée, d’une pensée et d’un sentiment. L’art exprimé par les sens, dans toutes ses formes nous mène dans le cœur même d’une société, il incarne la manifestation du poumon social, donc il offre une représentation logique de ce qu’on appellera: Culture. Le premier concept qui nous intéresse est celui de fonction.
Il est impératif de reconnaître et de déceler un rapprochement entre les facteurs étiques, sociaux et culturels. Ces interactions mêmes seront l’aboutissement estompé d’une chaîne sociale complexe et ces résultats nous témoigneront donc d’une évolution et d’un développement. Cette évolution est en fait définie comme les moteurs de la société en général, la politique, la religion, la culture, la science… Quels que soient les attitudes d’une société, le résultat sera réfléchit dans l’expression artistique de celle-ci. Le deuxième concept est donc celui de la continuité.
Il nous est donc inévitable de décrire, définir et étudier la société de par son expression artistique, car comme expliqué ci haut, l’art est le résultat intellectuel dégagé d’un cycle social sur lequel la vie d’un citoyen assyrien ou d’un monarque assyrien dépend quotidiennement.
Le double courant de l’art est ici ce qui nous intéresse. Le terme interaction, exploité plutôt, nous façonne les règles et conditions du cycle culturel dans la société Mésopotamienne assyrienne, mais n’éclairci point le rôle détaillé de ce dernier. Le double courant répercussif (rôle) de l’art dans la société est clairement abordable par la question de recherche suivante: Quel est le rôle de l’art dans la civilisation assyrienne antique.
L’art dans la civilisation assyrienne est défini comme un point commun entre le concept de société et celui de culture. Il est tout d’abord définit comme condition fondamentale, donc qui détermine la fonction comme premier concept. Il est tout autant décrit comme point de repère à l’évolution culturelle et sociale, donc le concept de continuité. L’art amène donc l’individu à réfléchir, à percevoir et à changer.
Afin d’appuyer cette hypothèse, il nous sera indispensable de premièrement donner un bref sommaire historique de l’évolution artistique en Mésopotamie, mais tout particulièrement assyrienne. Deuxièmement, l’analyse des représentations artistiques dans la société assyrienne, sous trois différents aspects de celle-ci. Finalement, une mise en contexte du témoin archéologie, nous guidera vers l’hypothèse soutenue.

I can't stop looking at this painting, it draw so many ideas, it reflects a reality, which reality?? many dreams are in it, many facial expressions, hearts, eyes, feelings; the freedom and it's rage....... Did you title them??
