Across Syria " In the Hot Zone"

Today, Kevin Sites, an american journalist reporting from Syria, reported the story of three Syrian bloggers: Sarah, Ghalia, and Majd. The report also sighted our "Across Syria".

Kevin's mission is to cover every armed conflict in the world within one year to provide a clear idea of the combatants, victims, causes, and costs of each of these struggles - and their global impact.

Instead of chasing headlines and adhering to pack journalism, Kevin pledges to vigorously pursue the stories in front of and behind the conflict, the small stories that when strung together illustrate a more complete picture.

I believe Kevin, Today, did exactly that...Instead of reducing Syria to simply another zombie rouge state, he shed the light on its people, revealing Syria’s human side (which happens to be the theme of our blog).

My hope is that this kind of reporting will help the western Audience start looking at us as humans with hopes, dreams, and aspirations, and not simply a collateral damage in an upcoming “hot Zone”.

Another thing I wanted to touch on, is your comments: We are are very pleased with your comments. In fact it is what keeps us going.
Here are some of your comments (thank you):
"I am an american woman who found beauty in your blog. I don't know much about your country but I read about you on Kevin Sites web page. I trust his reporting more than most because he is more concearned with truth than making up stories. I wish you the best in your endeavers to bring your history alive to others of us whom may never know any other way.Best wishes,Loretta"
.

  • I was in Damaascus for a few days many years ago, having the good misfortune to get bumped on my return flight from New Delhi to London on Syrian Airlines.

Just as I've done in dozens of countries I've travelled and lived, I met some great and interesting people in Syria.

One thing I have found in my travels is that the heart of Man is the same the world over -- our heart aches, desires and passions are shared by many, regardless of culture and country.

We must look beyond our differences to what we have in common --much.

  • I like your blog. I think your blog will enable others, particularly those who are not familiar with Syria, to look at your country beyond the lens that the media and/or government sees.
